On November 24, Candles of Remembrance were lit in the Parliament of Alberta as a symbol of honoring the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933. The event was attended by Alberta Parliament Speaker Nathan Cooper, Consul General of Ukraine in Edmonton Oleksandr Danyleiko, Alberta MLAs Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk and Deron Bilous, Head of UCC-Alberta Provincial Council Orysia Boychuk, and the Ukrainian community of Edmonton.
Consul General O. Danyleiko noted the importance of preserving the memory and conveying truthful information about the Holodomor abroad, and thanked the Government and Parliament of Alberta for recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people in the province.
