On November 23, 2019, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Edmonton participated in the event to commemorate the innocent victims of the 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine. The Consul General of Ukraine in Edmonton O.Danyleiko addressed the guests with the speech, noting the importance of preserving the memory of the Holodomor, as an act of violent obstruction of the Ukrainian people's desire for independence and self-determination. Speeches were also made by Mayor Edmonton Don Iveson, deputies of the federal and provincial parliaments, heads of Ukrainian public organizations. To commemorate the victims of Holodomor there was a burning of candles and the laying of wreaths to the world's first monument dedicated to the Holodomor.
